Dog Training (6 week course) at Well Bred

Once again Well Bred is offering Beginner Obedience classes for puppies and dogs taught by Glenn Ciottone of 'Consider it Canines, LLC'. Puppy class is for dogs under the age of 12 months and will include instruction on sit, recalls, proper playing, good house etiquette and more. Dogs older than 12 months will be in a seperate class and cover additional commands such as sit/stay, down and down/stay.
Classes will be held right at Well Bred. Convenient, easy parking.....What more could you ask for!
The six week class is $175.00. The puppy class begins at 6:30pm with the adult dog class starting at 7:45pm. Class size will be limited to 6 dogs so don't delay and register today!! Our classes last year were very popular and filled quickly. You may call (908-879-6569) or email Well Bred to reserve your spot. Registration will not be complete until payment (by cash or check) is received prior to the start of the first class. Please let us know the current age, breed and sex of your dog when emailing to register. Your dog will need to be up to date on all shots including bordetella (kennel cough). There will be no exceptions.

Opening Day at Cooper Gristmill

Join in celebrating the beginning of our 34th season at Cooper Gristmill. Water powers the Fitz waterwheel in order to run the machinery on all four floors and grind wheat seeds into flour. Stop by the gristmill to find out its history and how much flour it can produce in a day. The last tour is at 3:30pm.

Black River Industry and Nature Walk

Discover the early industries along the Black River with Joe Macasek, an industrial archeologist. Explore the flora, fauna and the ecosystem with naturalist Janis Slutsky. This is a 3.5 mile moderate walk along the Hacklebarney branch of the old railroad, lower millpond, a 1930's hydro-electric plant, powerhouse, and the newly restored Kay's dam. The hike meets in the Cooper Gristmill parking lot.

Through Cooper Gristmill's adaptation of Eric Carle's book, Pancakes! Pancakes!, participants will witness how much work goes into collecting ingredients to create the perfect pancake. They will tour the gristmill and see how flour was made from grain in the 1880's and then use the freshly ground flour to make a pancake.

Tour Cooper Gristmill and watch demostrations of tools powered by hands and feet. People-powered tools were typical of the 1890's in Milltown/Chester Township before electricity was available. You will see displays of the foot-powered scroll saw, one and two man saws, stone jack, treadle sewing machines, and hand drills as well as have the opportunity to try some tools yourself.

Rhubarb Muffin Baking (Children's Workshop)

There is a $10.00 fee (Friends Members $5.00) per family. This event is in the air-conditioned Cooper Gristmill Visitors Center. Pre-registration is required by June 2nd and please pay by cash or check when you arrive.

1890's Music Day at Milltown

Enjoy an afternoon of magical sounds reminiscent of musical events performed in Milltown/Chester over a century ago. Audiences will have a chance to interact with the musicians by playing fiddlesticks and by animating dancing puppets called limber jacks. This event is at the Cooper Gristmill and is presented by Nancy Shill and Charlie Pellegrino.
